The after-Christmas sales are a problem. They offer good deals just when your budget might be stretched thin from all that holiday spending! The good news? The deals will be there for at least all of January with discounts getting better as time passes. Retailers really want to clear out the merchandise and you get the benefits!

After New Year's Eve you'll find the best deals on formal and semi-formal wear. It's a great time to find a dress for an upcoming wedding. The holiday dresses tend to look more adult than the formal wear in the late spring. The spring dresses tend to be more prom appropriate. So even if you are invited to a spring or summer wedding, it's a good idea to start looking for that dress in January!

Almost all clothing is offered at deep discounts now and you can update your entire wardrobe from these January sales. It pays to look for deals on higher quality brands that you can use to refresh your work wardrobe. Higher quality items will look better longer and give you the best value, especially in basic styles and colors. Check out sales in shoes and handbags also for reasonable prices on higher quality items that will last longer. Coats are also on sale, with the best prices coming towards the end of January into early February. It's a great  time to replace a coat that has seen better days.

While you are in the stores, you'll probably see items that would make good gifts. Keep a list of what you want to spend for each person so you don't go over budget.

It's sometimes a pain to get to the stores during cold weather, but the deals make it worth your while. You'll get a little exercise walking too. I usually prefer to shop online, but this time of year the brick and mortar stores offer the best value, in my opinion. And you get to try things on!
